Junior quarterback threw for a season-high 281 yards and three touchdowns as the Flashes edged Central Michigan last Friday.
Kent State junior quarterback Spencer Keith (Little Rock, Ark.) has been named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Thursday (Nov. 10).
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
A mathematics major with a focus in pre-med carrying a 3.78 grade-point average, Keith led the Kent State football team to its biggest offensive output (422 total yards) of the season in a 24-21 win over MAC foe Central Michigan last Friday (Nov. 4) at Dix Stadium. Keith completed 17-of-31 passes for season-high 281 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. He added 13 yards rushing and did not take a sack. Kent State's previous season-high on offense was 319 total yards. Keith recently became the fourth quarterback in Kent State history with 5,000 yards passing.
The Golden Flashes (3-6, 2-3 MAC) visit Akron Saturday (Nov. 12) on SportsTime Ohio, looking to beat their archrival in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1987 and 1988. Kent State is still one of five teams in the MAC East separated by one game in the loss column with three conference games remaining on its schedule.
