Kent State Track & Field Teams Shrug Off Dreary Weather To Put In Solid Weekend Of Work At Miami Invitational

OXFORD, Ohio – The Kent State track & field teams refused to let a four hour rain and lightning delay slow them down at the Miami Invitational, as the men's team placed second with 115 points and the women's squad finished fifth with 60.
The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Stephen McLean, junior Princeton Bryson (Toledo, Ohio), freshman Dontell Higgins (Columbus, Ohio) and sophomore Nate Scales (Hilliard, Ohio) clocked a 41.51 to win the event.
Junior Rob Falchi (Winmalee, Australia) won the men's long jump with a leap of 24'-01.75" (7.36m).
Sophomore Brandon Bailey (Verona, Pa.) finished second in the men's 100-meter dash with a time of 10.98 while Higgins finished third with a time of 11.04. Bailey also placed third in the men's 200-meter dash by clocking a 21.93.
Sophomore Kenneth Agee (Shaker Heights, Ohio) recorded a leap of 6'-08.00" (2.03m) to take second in the men's high jump. Junior Ruben Belen (Medina, Ohio) took third with a jump of 6'-08.00" (2.03m) while junior Dean Wood (North Richmond, Australia) placed fourth with a leap of 6'-06.00" (1.98m).
Senior Mike Carroll (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) placed second in the men's triple with a leap of 43'-11.75" (13.40m) while sophomore Chris Stoner (Edinboro, Pa.) took fourth with a jump of 43'-08.00" (13.31m).
Fifth-year senor Matthew Pfleger (Garrettsville, Ohio) finished third in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 207'-02" (63.15m) while junior Aaron Crabtree (Lucasville, Ohio) recorded a throw of 187'-11" (57.29m).
Senior Kelly Gephart (Oak Harbor, Ohio) recorded the sixth-fast time in Kent State history in the women's 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:19.34.
Redshirt junior Kim Preston (Greenville, Pa.) took second in the women's pole vault, elevating herself 12'-07.50" (2.85m), which ranks as the fourth-best mark in school history.
Freshman Joh'vonnie Mosley (Youngstown, Ohio) recorded a throw of 49'-08.25" (15.14m) to take second in the women's shot put.
Freshman Melissa Kurzdorfer (Lancaster, N.Y.) placed second in the women's hammer throw with a toss of 192'-05" (58.66m) and also finished third in the women's discus throw with a toss of 155'-10" (47.51m).
Sophomore Sara Oczypok (Pittsburgh, Pa.) took second in the women's javelin throw with a toss of 140'-08" (42.88m) while junior Diana Dumitrescu (Campulung Arges, Romania) finished fifth with a throw of 114'-00" (34.80m).
The Golden Flashes travel to Knoxville, Tenn., next weekend (April 13-16) to take part in the Sea Ray Relays.
