LINCOLN, Neb. – A historic season for Kent State Athletics continued on Saturday night as the Kent State men's basketball team record a 74-60 win at Nebraska. For the Golden Flashes' storied program, the win is the first on the road against a Big Ten school since 1970.
Senior forward Chris Evans (Chesapeake, Va.) lead Kent State (4-2) with 19 points and six rebounds to help hand Nebraska (4-1) its first loss of the season.
Leading the majority of the game, the Golden Flashes fell behind 33-32 at halftime after the Cornhuskers closed the period with an 8-2 stretch over the last 5:30 capped off by a Dylan Talley lay-up in the closing seconds. Talley would go into the half with 17 points and finish with a game high 27. Â
The Nebraska lead was short lived however as Evans fueled a 10-2 spurt by scoring five points in the first three minutes to give Kent State the lead for good. The senior forward was there again scoring on a jumper with 10 minutes left to extend the lead to 52-49 after the Cornhuskers had pulled to within one. The basket by Evans jump started a 16-4 run over the next five minutes that put the game. Â
Junior forward Darren Goodson (Cincinnati, Ohio) shook off his early season struggles scoring a Kent State career high 16 points on 8-10 shooting in just 17 minutes of action. Senior guard Randal Holt (Cleveland, Ohio) added 15 points and four assists. Â
The Golden Flashes return to action on Wednesday, November 28 at Youngstown State. Â
