Track and Field Compete at Penn State's Sykes & Sabock

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – With a partial squad mostly competing in field events, the Kent State indoor track and field team posted strong performances at Penn State's Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup Saturday.
Facing top talent from mostly the east coast, the Kent State women took three individual field titles and finished fifth with 55 points among 16 teams. The Golden Flashes men finished 11th overall with 20 points. Combined, Kent State competitors put up 16 PRs and one top 10 performance.
Senior Kim Preston (Greenville, Pa.) had a second straight weekend with a stellar performance in the pole vault. Preston captured the title Saturday with an effort of 13-01.50, which tied the Sykes & Sabock meet record.
For the fourth time in as many meets, senior Penina Acayo (Kampala, Uganda) was the winner in the triple jump. Acayo improved her mark in Kent State's records, taking sole possession of fourth place with her victorious effort of 40-11.75 on her final attempt.
Winning the women's shot put for the fifth time this season was Joh'vonnie Mosley (Youngstown, Ohio), who bested the field by almost two feet with her final effort of 51-09.00. Teammates Jacklyn Leppelmeier (McComb, Ohio) and Lauren Noe (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) took sixth and ninth, respectively, in the shot; both set new marks for personal bests.
In the weight throw, Noe finished in second place after her final throw of 60-10.00 pushed her up the charts.
Junior Keri Dantley (Imperial, Pa.) took third in the triple jump with her season-best of 39-08.75.
Junior Domenica Rossi (Middleburg Heights, Ohio) tied for fifth in the pole vault with her season-best effort of 12-01.50.
In the women's long jump, Roseanne Erickson (Alexandria, Minn.) and Brooke Hutchings (Wadsworth, Ohio) finished fifth and tied for seventh, respectively. Erickson jumped 17-11.75 while Hutchings posted an effort of 17-10.75.
In the women's 800-meter run, Danielle Dougherty (Peninsula, Ohio) improved her personal best to finish 10th overall with a 2:15.85 time.
On the men's side, Bo Crabtree (Lucasville, Ohio) turned in a season-best mark in the weight throw with his toss of 61-05.50, which was good for third place.
Rob Falchi (Winmalee, Australia) took third in the triple jump with his mark of 48-11.00.
In his first running of the 5,000-meter run this season, sophomore Andrew Goodwin (Celina, Ohio) set a personal best with a 15:04.96, good for fourth place on Saturday.
Dillon Corbett (Orrville, Ohio) placed ninth with his mark of 49.52 in the 400-meter dash.
