Winters & Nix Earn Spots on Lombardi Award Watch List

Preseason honors continued to roll in for Kent State junior defensive tackle Roosevelt Nix (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and senior offensive tackle Brian Winters (Hudson, Ohio) Monday as both players were named to the 43rd annual Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List. Nix and Winters were two of only eight players in the Mid-American Conference named to the list honoring the nation's best lineman or linebacker.
Earlier this summer Winters and Nix were both named to Phil Steele's Preseason All-MAC First Team. Nix was also named to the Nagurski and Outland Trophy Watch Lists.
Nix was named to the All-MAC First Team in each of his first two seasons, claiming 2010 MAC Defensive Player of the Year and 2010 MAC Freshman of the Year honors. Last season, he finished tied for 13th in the nation with 17.0 tackles for loss.
Winters was named to the All-MAC Team in each of his last two seasons, including a second team selection in 2011. He has started in 36 consecutive games, since beginning his true freshman season in 2009.
