Kent State Track & Field Team Wraps Up Successful Day at Redbird Invite

Williams, Brown earn multiple wins as Golden Flashes take top honors in 17 events.
NORMAL, Ill.—Kent State's indoor track and field team completed successful day at Saturday's Redbird Invitational at the Horton Field House in Normal, Ill.
The Golden Flashes took top honors in 17 events on the day in the tri-meet with host Illinois State and SIU-Edwardsville. The women captured nine events while the men came out on top in eight events.
On the women's side, the Golden Flashes continued their dominance in the long jump. A week after sophomore Roseanne Erickson (Alexandria, Minn.) set the school record with a jump of 19'-11.00" at the Akron Dual, the Flashes took the top three places in the event on Saturday. Freshman Dior Delophont (Nancy, France) took first place with a mark of 19'10.75", while sophomore Ann Marie Duffus (North Clarendon, Jamaica) had a jump of 19'-10.25" to finish runner-up. Those marks place Delophont and Duffus second and third, respectively, in school history in the event as the top three marks have all come within the past two weeks. Erickson finished third with a mark of 18'09.00".
In other field events, senior Keri Dantley (Imperial, Pa.) won the triple jump with a mark of 40'-00.0" and senior Domenica Rossi (Middleburg Heights, Ohio) won the pole vault by clearing 12'-00.50.
On the track, the Flashes took 1-2 in both the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles. Junior Katie Reiser (Wayne, Ohio) won the 60-meter dash (7.64), followed by Chanitta Westbrooks (Cleveland, Ohio). In the hurdles, Duffus remained unbeaten in the, clocking an 8.56 for first place and was followed closely by freshman Kailyn Arcury (Williamsville, N.Y.) in 8.64.
Junior Shanequa Williams (Akron, Ohio) took first place in both the 200-meter dash (24.41) and 400-meter dash (55.36). Senior Melinda Sawnor (Rochester, N.Y.) captured the 800-meter run in 2:13.02. The 4x400 relay team of freshman Taylor Farquhar (Belmont, Ontario), sophomore Olivia Hallstein (Long Island, N.Y.), senior Andreea Patrasc (Bacau, Romania), and Westbrooks rounded out the winners on the women's side.
On the men's side, sophomore Matthias Tayala (McDonald, Ohio) won the weight throw with a toss of 64'-01.75". Led by senior Kenneth Agee (Shaker Heights, Ohio), the Flashes took the top three spots in the high jump. Agee won the event by clearing 6'-07.50". Freshman Cody Jones (Canton, Ohio) also cleared 6'-07.50", but took more than one attempt to do so to take second place. Sophomore Tyler Jones (Stow, Ohio) finished third (6'-04.00").
Senior Mitchell Seawood (Warren, Ohio) won the 60-meter hurdles (8.22) while redshirt junior Nate Scales (Hilliard Ohio) won the 60-meter dash in 6.88, which is eighth in school history. Junior Laron Brown (Dayton, Ohio) earned a victory in the 400-meter dash (50.46) to give the Flashes three titles in sprints.
Junior Marteze Roper (Warren, Ohio) clocked 1:53.29 to win the 800-meter run and redshirt senior Michael Heller (Stow, Ohio) won the 1-mile run in 4:16.56 for a pair of distance victories. The 4x400 relay team featuring junior Andrew Goodwin (Celina, Ohio), sophomore Jacob Swords (Akron, Ohio), sophomore Miles Dunlap (McDonald, Ohio), and Brown took first place with a time of 3:22.24.
Kent State will compete at the Akron Invitational next weekend (Feb. 1-2).
