Kent State Looks to Rebound at Cincinnati

Kent State (1-1) will look to move back to the positive side of .500 when they travel to Cincinnati (0-2) on Sunday (Nov. 17) in their first road contest of the season.
The Golden Flashes are coming off a 63-94 loss to Duquesne Thursday night (Nov. 14). Kent State kept it close in the opening 12 minutes, but the Dukes broke away and never looked back for the win. Amber Dunlap led by matching a career-high 16 points. Ashley Evans also reached double digits, scoring ten. Cheylene Harper made the most of her 15 minutes on the floor, finishing with nine points and eight rebounds.
Kent State is 3-8 all-time versus Cincinnati. Last season, the Golden Flashes fell 41-59 at home against the Bearcats. The last time Kent State beat Cincinnati was in the previous meeting in 1986 when they won 77-76 at home.
The Golden Flashes look to build off a 3-27 2012-13 season with an influx of new talent. The roster includes six returners and seven newcomers. Senior Ashley Evans looks to lead the team in the starting point guard role again and fellow senior Amber Dunlap will look to cement herself in a starting role this season. CiCi Shannon has seen her first game action after having to sit out last year due to transfer inelegibilty.
Also returning are sophomores Rachel Mendelsohn and Heather Bachman. The roster is rounded out by transfer Chey Harper, junior college transfers Montia Johnson and Mikell Chinn and true freshman Larissa Lurken, Janae Peterson, Emily Leonard and Krista White.
Cincinnati enters Sunday's contest looking for their first win. The Bearcats began their season with a 61-77 loss on the road at Northern Kentucky and then lost their home-opener 58-68 against Florida State. Dayeesha Hollins is leading the team, averaging 12.5 points per game while Jeansie Randolph is leading the team with a 7.0 rebounding average.
