Ha Tied for First Place As Golden Flashes Increase Lead on Day 2 of MAC Championships

Even par 72 puts Ha in tie atop leaderboard, three other Flashes among top 10 with 18 holes to play on Sunday.

NASHPORT, Ohio — The Kent State women's golf team took big strides towards claiming its 15th consecutive conference title during Saturday's second round of the Mid-American Conference Championships at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. The Golden Flashes shot 298 and will take an 11-stroke lead into the final round on Sunday.
This is just the fourth time in MAC Championships played at Longaberger that a team has posted a score under 300. Kent State shot 296 and 297 in 2007 and 292 in 2009. The Flashes had four players with scores lower than 80 on Saturday, and all four are in the top 10 after the first two rounds.
Sophomore Jennifer Ha (Calgary, Alberta) was the lone player to shoot for par on the day and her 72 moved her into a tie for the lead overall (148). Ha, who concluded the round with a birdie on No. 18, was steady throughout the day. She parred 12 holes and shot 36 on both the front and back nines.
Ha looks for the first tournament win of her career and to become the first MAC medalist from Kent State since Martina Gavier in 2010.
Freshman Josée Doyon (Saint-Georges-de-Beauce, Quebec) is tied for third and just three strokes off the lead after shooting a 2-over, 74 on Saturday. Doyon compensated for bogeying her first two holes with an eagle on No. 3, just the second of the tournament.
Junior Erin Hawe (Walton, New Zealand) was in first place for much of the day, but finished with a 7-over, 79 and is tied for sixth overall (152). Playing in a group that included Friday's leader, Jenna Hague (Ball State), Hawe held a one-stroke lead over the 2012 MAC medalist with just three holes remaining. However, she finished with a double-bogey on No. 17 and a bogey on No. 18, a four-stroke increase from her performance on those holes in the first round.
Sophomore Natalie Goodson (Hudson, Ohio) made the team's biggest improvement from the opening round with a 1-over, 73, which was tied for the second-lowest score of the day. Goodson was terrific over the final seven holes as she had three birdies to just one bogey and sits in eighth place.
Senior Jackie Yanch (Barrie, Ontario) is tied for 15th after an 81 on Saturday.
Jenna Hague put her herself in position to claim medalist honors for the second year in a row with 76 on Saturday. Hague enters the final 18 holes tied for first with the Flashes' Ha. Both players will play in the final group to tee off Sunday at 9:20 a.m.
Ball State remains in second place with a two-round team score of 612. A strong performance on Saturday by Eastern Michigan moved the Eagles into third with a 621.
Due to storms in Sunday's weather forecast, the first tee time has been moved up to 7 a.m. Kent State's first tee time is scheduled for 8:40 a.m.
