Kent State defensive lineman Andrew Christopher (Chardon, Ohio) was one of 11 football players awarded with a postgraduate scholarship at the Northeastern Ohio Chapter of the National Football Foundation's 25th Annual Scholar Athlete Awards Banquet on May 7, at LaCentre Banquet Facilty in Westlake.
Nominations can come from 15 football schools in Northeast Ohio and require graduating seniors to have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.
Christopher, who graduates in August, has one year of eligibility remaining and will begin graduate school in the fall. A walk-on in his first four seasons at Kent State, Chistopher became a regular on special teams and gradually worked his way into the defensive line rotation. After playing in every game in 2012, he was awarded an athletic scholarship this past spring.
Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam served as the banquet's feature speaker.
The Golden Flashes are coming off an unprecedented 11-win season, going 8-0 in Mid-American Conference play. Kent State kicks off the 2013 season Aug. 29 against Liberty.
