
Soccer Hosts Central Michigan & BGSU to Start Mid-American Conference Schedule

KENT, Ohio- The Kent State University women's soccer team begins Mid-American Conference play this weekend with a pair of games at Zoeller Field. The Golden Flashes will challenge Central Michigan at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29, followed by a 1 p.m. game vs. Bowling Green on Sunday. Sept. 29.  Live stats will be available for both games.

Scouting the Golden Flashes
The Golden Flashes improved their overall record to 5-3-0 with a 3-0 victory over Youngstown State last Friday afternoon.  Freshman Jenna Hellstrom scored the game-winner just six minutes into the game, followed with goals by seniors Jessacca Gironda and Morgan Mah. Â

Gironda leads Kent State in scoring with seven points on three goals and an assist. Sophomore Madison Helterbran is second with six points on two goals and two assists.  Hellstrom, who is tied for second with three goals, ranks first in the Mid-American Conference in game-winning goals (2), and second in both goals per game (0.75) and points per game (1.50).

About Central Michigan
The Chippewas enter the weekend searching for their first win of the year with an 0-7-1 record. Emily Cooksey, Laura Gosse and Jennifer Gassman have scored Central Michigan's three goals this season.   Heather Laeufer has seen the most action in net for the Chippewas. She is 0-4-0 on the year and in 360 minutes has allowed eight goals.Â

About Bowling Green
Bowling Green is also looking for its first win of the year, coming in at 0-6-0 on the year. Last season, the squad was just 1-17-1 and went winless in Mid-American Conference play. Senior Madeline Wideman leads the Falcons in scoring with four points. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Lauren Cadel leads the MAC, and ranks among the top 10 in the nation in saves per game. She has 52 saves in six games, an average of 8.67 per game.Â

The Golden Flashes will hit the road for the next two weeks.  Kent State will take on Ball State at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, followed by a 1 p.m. game on Sunday, Oct. 6 vs. Miami.
