Barnes Sets Facility Record in Kent State Tune Up Saturday

KENT, Ohio – William Barnes set the Kent State Field House Facility record as Kent State's men's indoor track and field team completed the Kent State Tune Up Saturday, February 22 in the Kent State Field House.
Barnes ran a 7.83, 60m hurdles for first place Saturday, as he beat his previous personal best of 7.87, third on Kent State's all-time performance list.
Barnes also took first in the 200m dash, 21.43 while Laron Brown took third, 21.75.
Michael King moved into a tie on Kent State's indoor All-Time performance list with his first place finish in the shot put, 18.47m (60' 7.25"). King's previous record was 60' 1.25".
The Jones' duo took first and second in the men's high jump (seeded) as Cody Jones came away with first (2.07m – 6' 9.50") and Tyler Jones finished second, 2.02m (6' 7.50").
Wayne Gordon flew to first place as he finished the 60m dash with a time of 6.79, while Riak Reese finished in third, 6.81. Kyle Schlumbohm took second in the seeded pole vault with a jump of 4.75m (15' 7.00").
Marteze Roper finished the 800m run in first place with a time of 1:52.60; Danny Young took first in the 300m hurdles, 38.78.
Julian Meyer ran the 3000m run as he finished in third with a time of 8:32.26 as Matthias Tayala took home first in the weight throw, 20.97m (68' 9.75").
Xavier Braxton and Samuel Ludgood took first and third, respectively in the long jump. Braxton finished with a time of 6.71m (22' 0.25") with Ludgood hitting a 6.57m (21' 6.75") mark.
Kent State swept the men's triple jump as Jailyn Twitty took first, 14.72m (48' 3.50"), Ludgood took second, 14.18m (46' 6.25") and Donovan Tolbert in third, 14.09m (46' 2.75").
The Golden Flashes return to the Field House next weekend, Friday, February 28 and Saturday, March 1 as they host the 2014 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, slated to start Friday at 10 a.m.
