
Dunlap and Tayala Named MAC Track & Field Athletes of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Kent State juniors Miles Dunlap (McDonald, Ohio) and Matthias Tayala (McDonald, Ohio) swept the men's side of the Mid-American Conference Track and Field Athlete's of the week honors, announced by the conference office Tues., April 1.
Dunlap, the MAC Track Athlete of the Week, opened the season up with a second place finish at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational Sat., March 29 in Louisville, Ky. in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.34. His time is first in the MAC on the season and is currently 26th in the nation.
Tayala was named the MAC Field Athlete as the Week as he competed Friday at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational as he kicked off the season with a first place finish in the Hammer throw with a distance of 68.57m (225' 0"). His mark of 225' is a new personal best in the hammer throw and is fourth in both the nation and on Kent State's All-Time Top Performers list. Tayala set the new meet record Friday and has the top distance in the MAC.
The two athletes along with the rest of the Golden Flashes return to action this weekend in Akron at the Northeast Quad at the Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex where the first event is set to get underway Fri., April 4th with the hammer throw at 3:30 p.m. Competition begins Saturday with the field events at 11 a.m. with the Javelin and running events at 2 p.m. with the 3000 Steeple Chase.
