Annual Spring Jersey Scrimmage Set for Saturday morning

KENT, Ohio – The first big test of Kent State's spring football season arrives on Saturday morning when the Golden Flashes offense and defense battle in the annual Spring Jersey Scrimmage at Dix Stadium.
While the offense tries to reclaim the right to wear the blue "home" jerseys in practice from the defense, Kent State's coaches will be busy evaluating performances.
"We want to see which guys will make plays," said head coach Paul Haynes. "They have been doing a good job this spring with their preparation, with learning the offense and defense. Now this is the first time this spring that we will really be out there with the lights on. We'll see who rises to the top and who will fall off.
"As coaches we want to go in with an open mind and find out if guys will surprise you, or will some surprise in a negative we way."
Due to a limited number of offensive linemen, the Jersey Scrimmage will only consist of between 60 and 70 plays.
The coaches have created a unique set of rules and a scoring system to determine a winner between the offense and the defense.

PLAYING RULES
Each drive will consist of six plays. If the offense has a drive sustain on its first possession, it will be allowed to continue the drive beyond six plays to its conclusion. If the offense is stopped in the first three plays, the drive will end on the sixth play no matter where the ball is.
SCORING
DEFENSE:
1 point for forcing a punt
3, 7 points for a fumble recovered or interception (Field position determines points: -50 is 7 points and +50 is 3 points)
12 points for interception or fumble returned for touchdown
1 point for tackle behind line of scrimmage
2 points for a sack
3 points for blocking a field goal
1 point for blocking an extra point
2 points for unsuccessful 2-point play
3 points for stopping 4th and 1 behind the 50
2 points for stopping a 4th down inside the 50
OFFENSE:
6 points for every touchdown
1 point for each 1st down gained
1 point for each play over 20 yards
1 point for each extra point
3 points for each field goal
2 points for each 2-point play
