Kent State Pitching Propels Team to 4-1 Win Over Penn State

KENT, Ohio – Kent State's (26-13) pitching effort beginning with starter Andy Ravel propelled the team to a 4-1 victory over Penn State (17-20) Tuesday night (Apr. 22).

"I thought Andy Ravel pitched a great outing," Head Coach Jeff Duncan said. "He's getting better and better every outing."

A cast of five hurlers for the Golden Flashes did not allow an earned run in the performance while only giving up four hits and striking out ten. Freshman Ravel went 5.1 innings with two hits, one walk and five strikeouts to lead the way.

Tim Faix, John Fasola and Dan Kopcak followed out of the bullpen while Eric Dorsch picked up his ninth save of the season in the final inning.

Kent State got on the board first in the 4^th inning on a walk by Alex Miklos and single by Cody Koch. They did the most damage in the 6^th scoring three runs. In the frame, T.J. Sutton was walked with the bases loaded before a sacrifice fly by Jeff Revesz and a groundout by Zach Beckner scored the other two runs.

Penn State was able to add in a tally with an unearned run in the 7^th, bringing the final score to 4-1.

Offensively, Koch was 3-for-4 for the Golden Flashes with a run and a RBI. Both Zarley Zalewski and Revesz had doubles.

Kent State finishes its current homestand on Wednesday (Apr. 23) when Malone comes to Schoonover Stadium for a 6:00pm first pitch.
