KENT, Ohio – Errors hurt Kent State on Wednesday night (Apr. 23) but the Golden Flashes were still able to come away with a 7-6 victory over Malone (17-25).

The win is the fourth-straight for the Golden Flashes as they improve to 27-13 on the season and concludes a nine-game homestand where the team went 7-2.

The lead swayed to both sides in the game until a two-run 5^th inning for Kent State secured the win. After Malone scored one run in the opening frame, Kent State answered in the bottom with three runs on an Alex Miklos double and ground out by Cody Koch.

The Pioneers answered in the 2^nd with two runs but the Golden Flashes were able to take the lead again after a double by Conner Simonetti in the home side of the inning.

Malone's biggest damage came in the 4^th as they were able to score three unearned runs thanks to two bunt singles, a passed ball, two throwing errors and a sacrifice fly.

Yet again Kent State answered, as they plated one in the 4^th on a RBI single by Zach Beckner. They put the game away in the 5^th after a two-RBI double by Curtis Olvey.

Eli Martin, Jared Skolnicki, John Birkbeck, Spencer Bryant, Jason Revesz, Josh Pierce and Michael Clark all spent time on the mound in the piggyback pitching style of the game. Birkbeck earned the win to improve to 3-0 on the season while Clark picked up the save.

Simonetti had the best game offensively with two doubles in four at-bats. Polen, Miklos and Olvey all also had a double on the night. Olvey and Miklos led the team with two RBI each.

"The guys who haven't played in a while, I was really impressed by how they played," Head Coach Jeff Duncan said.

Kent State resumes conference play this weekend when they travel to Bowling Green for a three-game series starting on Friday. Ty Linder will have the call all weekend long on Golden Flashes iHeart Radio.
