
Track and Field Opens Busy Weekend at Drake Relays and Gina Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa – Kent State's track and field teams started off their busy weekend, Fri., April 25 at the Drake Relays as the Golden Flashes had three individuals qualify for the finals tomorrow at Drake Stadium.
The third offical day of the Drake Relays, the Golden Flashes' first day of competing, saw three individuals qualify for the finals Saturday. Ann Marie Duffus started things off with a sixth place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.63, as she advanced to the finals tomorrow.
Roseanne Erickson followed Duffus' tracks and advanced to Saturday's finals in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.76 in the preliminaries Friday. Erickson's 11.76 in the prelims was a new personal-best.
Wayne Gordon was the third individual to qualify for finals as he took fifth in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash, with a time of 10.36.
In final events of the day, Kent State had five athletes – C.J. Carlisle, Dior Delophont, Roseanne Erickson, Joh'Vonnie Mosley, Jesse Oxley – finish in the top-10.
Carlisle took home ninth place in the javelin throw with a distance of 43.85m (143' 10"), while Erickson finished the long jump with a mark of 5.97m (19' 7"). Oxley competed in the pole vault and finished sixth with a height of 5.15m (16' 10.75").
Mosley and Delophont both took home second in their respective events, Discus and High Jump, as Mosley had a mark of 51.15m (167' 10") for a new personal best. Delophont took second after passing for the first three heights of 1.60m, 1.64m, and 1.68m, to reach her final height and personal-best of 1.84m (6' 0.50").
Despite finishing 15th in the 4x400-meter relay, the men's 4x400 squad – Matthew Tobin, Miles Dunalp, Danny Young and Laron Brown – ran the third fastest time in school history at the Drake Relays; the quad ran a time of 3:09.61.
The Drake Relays at Drake Stadium continue tomorrow with the first college event of the day starting at 8:30 a.m. CT with the women's Shuttle Hurdle preliminaries.
Kip Janrvin Open
Results
INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Golden Flashes took part in the second and final day of the Kip Janrvin Open at Simpson College Fri., April 25, which was highlighted by Matthew Tobin's first place finish in the 200-meter dash at Buxton Stadium.
Tobin ran the 200m in a time of 21.19 for first place. Erica Hutson took home second on the women's side in a time of 25.26, for a personal record, as Kaila Garnder and Olivia Hallstein took third and fourth, respectively. Gardner came in with a time of 25.35 as Hallstein was at 25.47.
Katie Reiser was the top Golden Flashes' runner in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.40. Chelsea Laury finish fifth in the 400-meter dash in 59.15 seconds.
Justin Bailey competed in the triple jump as he took home second place with a mark of 14.17m (46' 6").
Hillsdale Gina Relays
Results
HILLSDALE, Mich. - Kent State saw five personal-bests take place at the Hillsdale Gina Relays Friday night.
In the 800-meter run, Olivia Gaus took home third place with a time of 2:17.66 as Kristen Bergmeyer finished in 24th with a time of 2:25.10.
Tabitha Jacofsky and Taylor Wickey both finished in the top-20 in the 1500-meter run as Jacofsky took 19th with a time of 4:38.19 and Wickey in 20th with a personal-best of 4:38.56.
Grant Onken finished 18th in the men's 1500-meter run with a time of 3:56.57 as Steve Fischer took 20th in the 5000-meter run in a personal-best time of 14:59.92.
Andrew Goodwin and Paige Foster both ran the 3000-meter Steeplechase Friday night as Goodwin took 12th on the men's side in 9:30.54 as Foster finished the women's race in 25th, 11:43.53.
Alexandria Vintevoghel, Rachel Slingluff and Matt Kahl ran the 10,000-meter run's at the Gina Relays, while all three runners set personal-bests Friday evening. Vintevoghel took fifth, 35:41.37, and Slingluff took 11th, 36:45.52, on the women's side as Kahl finished 18th on the men's, 30:52.43.
Vintevoghel improved her spot on the Kent State All-Time Top Performers list as she is now sitting in fourth and Slingluff climbed into the top performers now in seventh on that list.
The second day of the Gina Relays continue Sat., April 26th in Hillsdale, Mich.
