Big Series Set to End Baseball's Regular Season

Kent State (30-20, 14-10 MAC) will close out the regular season with an event-filled three-game series with rival Akron (24-26, 11-13) Thursday-Saturday.
Thursday – Diamond Classic for Kids
• The series will begin with the 8th Annual Diamond Classic for Kids at Canal Park on Thursday night at 6:30pm.
• Tickets are $5 with proceeds benefitting the Akron Children's Hospital. Children six and under get in free.
Friday – 100 Years of Baseball Celebration
• Kent State will celebrate 100 years of baseball on Friday at Schoonover Stadium
• The event will kick off with the rededication of Rollins Way at 4:50pm.
• The 1964 team that won the Golden Flashes' first MAC Championship will be on hand and honored pregame.
• There will also be numerous throwback features in a nod to the first Kent State baseball team, the Normal Nine, that began play in 1914.
• A card set of the All-Time Team that was selected by fan voting will be given away to the first 300 fans in attendance.
Saturday – Senior Night
• Kent State will honor its seven seniors prior to the game on Saturday.
• Spencer Bryant, Michael Clark, Cody Koch, Josh Pierce, Troy Summers, T.J. Sutton and Jon Wilson will be recognized for playing their final game at Schoonover Stadium.
PNC Wagon Wheel Challenge
• The winner of the series will earn a point for its school in the PNC Wagon Wheel Challenge.
• Kent State is currently ahead 6.5 to 5.5. The Golden Flashes need one point to retain the trophy.
• Men and women's outdoor track will also be competing this weekend for the other two of three point opportunities remaining.
• Kent State has won the challenge both years of its existence.
Kent State – Akron History
• The Golden Flashes are 104-53-1 all-time against the Zips.
• Kent State swept Akron last season, including a series-opening 17-inning victory at the 2013 Diamond Classic for Kids.
• The last time Akron took a game was in 2011. The last time the Zips took the series was in 2009.

• The tournament begins Wednesday, May 21st and is held at All-Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, Ohio.
• Ball State, Central Michigan, Miami and Kent State have all clinched a MAC Tournament spot.
