LOUISVILLE, Ky. – No. 4 Kent State dropped its first game of NCAA Regional play on Friday night to No. 1 host Louisville, 5-0.
Defensive miscues hurt the Golden Flashes early, as a leadoff walk and single came in to score in the 1st on a fielding error. The Cardinals added another run to their lead in the 2nd with a run on a single, stolen base and double. It became a 5-0 game in the 3rd when a walk and hit batter came home with the help of another Kent State error, followed by a base hit.
Brian Clark went five innings in the start with five runs allowed but only two were earned. He walked three and struck out four. Andy Ravel threw two innings of shutout baseball with three hits while Josh Pierce had a 1-2-3 8th inning to cap off Kent State's good pitching performance.
Jon Wilson started the game with a single and followed with another to increase his hit streak to eight-straight plate appearances. He was the only Golden Flash with a multi-hit night. Zarley Zalewski, Zach Beckner and Justin Wagler contributed to the team's five hits.
No. 4 Kent State will now face No. 2 Kentucky in an elimination game on Saturday at 1:00pm on ESPN3.
