Track and Field Closes Out Regular Season at Campbell-Wright Open This Weekend

Kent State's Track and Field programs close out the regular season as they travel to the Campbell-Wright Open this weekend, Fri., May 9- Sat., May 10 at the University of Akron.

The Campbell-Wright kicks off Friday with the hammer throw (women then men) at 3:30 p.m. as all other events are Saturday with the javelin and the 10,000m run (special invitational event) at 10 a.m.

The last time out for the Golden Flashes, the two teams combined for 15 first place finishes (12 men and 3 women) at the Ohio Open, headlined by sophomore Pole Vaulter Jesse Oxley who broke Kent State's 16-year record set by Jamie Clymer in 1998 with a height of 17' 3". Oxley beat his previous personal-best mark of 17' 0.75" with his first place height at the Ohio Open of 5.28m (17' 3.75").

Other first place winners on the men's side were – Michael King (Shot Put – 59' 4"), Jeremy Jancso (High Jump – 6' 0"), Reggie Jagers (Discus – 184' 10"), Xavier Braxton (Long Jump – 23' 1.25"), Donovan Tolbert (Triple Jump – 48' 0.75"), Grant Onken (1,500m – 3:58.35), William Barnes (110m Hurdles – 14.26, 200m Dash – 21.67), Miles Dunlap (400m Dash – 48.39), Danny Young (400m Hurdles – 54.60) and the 4x100-meter relay team (Laron Brown, Riak Reese, Nate Scales and Cody Seifert) in a time of 41.62.

On the women's side, C.J. Carlisle was one of three athletes to take home first as she won the javelin with a mark of 45.86m (150' 5"). Joining Carlisle with a first place finish were Morgan Estes, who won the pole vault with a height of 3.80m (12' 2.5"), and Erica Hutson, who won the 400m Dash with a time of 55.76.

Following the Campbell-Wright Open, Kent State's track and field teams head to the Mid-American Conference Championships in Athens, Ohio hosted by Ohio University on May 15-May 17.
