Thomas Shines at Jamaican Senior National Championships; Takes 1st in Shot Put Saturday

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Kent State sophomore Danniel Thomas (Westmoreland, Jamaica) took first in the shot put on Sat., June 28 and second in the discus Fri., June 27 at the Jamaican Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) National Senior Trials in Kingston, Jamaica.
Thomas took second in the discus on Friday night with a mark of 55.02m (180' 6") finishing behind Kellion Knibb out of Florida State (58.88m/193' 2").
On Saturday Thomas took home the top spot in the shot put with a heave of 16.04m (52' 7.5"). Thomas beat the second place Devene Brown (14.44m/47' 4.5") by 5-feet 3-inches.
Thomas will await word from her country to see if she can represent Jamaica at the Common Wealth Games in Glasgow from July 23- August 3
She will represent Jamaica at the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) Under-23 Games Aug., 8-10.
Thomas will compete on Fri., August 8 in the discus at 6:05 p.m. ET and again on Sat., August 9 at 6:20 p.m. ET for the shot put at the NACAC games.
