Lawson Named Great Lakes Region Women’s Coach of the Year

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Kent State's Director of Track and Field, Coach Bill Lawson, was recognized by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as the 2014 Great Lakes Region Women's Coach of the Year on Monday, June 9.
Lawson was recognized by the USTFCCCA after his women's track and field team picked up their fifth straight outdoor Mid-American Conference Title on May 15-17 with a total of 132 points.
The Mid-American Conference also recognized Coach Lawson for his efforts and leadership as he was named the 2014 MAC Women's Coach of the Year after they won the title on May 17. Under Lawson's tutelage, the women's team won six events at the championships.
Dior Delophont won the High Jump and Triple Jump as Danniel Thomas won the Shot Put and Discus. Ann Marie Duffus won the 100-meter hurdles as Roseanne Erickson won the Long Jump.
Lawson saw six athletes compete at the NCAA East Region Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla. and has four heading to the national championships in six events
Lawson sends four athletes on the women's side – Delophont, Thomas, Erickson and Joh'Vonnie Mosley – to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Eugene, Oregon this weekend, June 11-14.
