CLEVELAND- Ten Kent State football players were named to the 2014 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team Tuesday by the conference office. Senior Anthony Meray (Spanaway, Wash.) was one of only seven MAC players to earn the honor for the third consecutive season.
Jordan Italiano (Canfield, Ohio), Matt Dellinger (Clarkston, Mich.) and Nate Vance all became two-time Academic All-MAC selections. They were joined this year by Chad Bushley (Berea, Ohio), Nick Cuthbert (Chesterland, Ohio), Nate Holley (Toledo, Ohio), Nick Holley (Toledo, Ohio), Chris Humphrey (Solon, Ohio) and Casey Pierce (Parma, Ohio).
To be eligible for the academic accolade, student-athletes must be in at least their second year of school, carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher and participate in 50 percent of the team's games that season.
Meray, a senior running back and exercise specialist major, is one five Flashes on the list to carry a GPA of 3.5 or better.
Three Kent State safeties made the list, including Italiano and Cuthbert, who each carry over a 3.9 GPA. Last month, Italiano was named to the Academic All-America First team. He was joined by Cuthbert and Nick Holley on the Academic All-District Team earlier this season.
Vance and Pierce each earned undergraduate degrees prior to the 2014 season. Vance had also earned Academic All-MAC Honorable Mention as a sophomore. Bushley and Humphrey both earned Honorable Mention in the previous two seasons.
Next week, the Golden Flashes will announce their new members for the 2015 season during National Signing Day (Feb. 4).
