KENT, Ohio – Kent State (4-8, 3-1) and Miami (9-7, 3-1) both battled hard Friday afternoon, but the Golden Flashes were able to walk away the victors on home turf, 1-0.
Nearly 17 minutes into the game, Krysti Lober sent in a pass from the right side of the net to Madison Thompson who was able to easily connect for the game's only goal.
The RedHawks had their chances, but Andrea Rinehart was solid in net with ten saves for her second shutout of the season.
The teams were even on shots with 14 apiece. Kent State had the edge on corners, 6-4. Ines Delpech, Alison Harmatz and Jessica Nesbitt all helped lead the Golden Flashes' attack with three shots each.
Kent State and Miami are now tied atop the Mid-American Conference standings at 3-1. Missouri State is 2-1 and plays at Central Michigan later in the afternoon on Friday.
The Golden Flashes will travel to take on American at 1 p.m. Sunday before returning to MAC play next Friday at home at 1 p.m. against Ohio.
