
Golden Flashes Defeat Bowling Green, 4-1

KENT, Ohio- Kent State rolled to a 4-1victory over Bowling Green in women's soccer on Friday night at Zoeller Field. Junior Morgan Williams scored the game winning goal in the 43rd minute and Golden Flashes sophomore Jaime Eiben, junior Jenna Hellstom and sophomore Donavan Capehart each had a goal apiece.
With the victory, Kent State improved to 8-5-2 overall and 4-3-0 in Mid-American Conference play. The Golden Flashes remained unbeaten at home and improved their record at Zoeller Field to 5-0-1. With the loss, Bowling Green fell to 6-8-1 overall and 4-3-0 in the MAC.
Kent State fell behind 1-0 early on a goal by Bowling Green's Skylar Fleak in the 11th minute but rallied back to take a 2-1 lead going into the intermission. Eiben answered for Kent State with an unassisted goal in the 35th minute to tie the game at 1-1. Eiben got a foot on a deflected ball and fired a shot from the top of the 18-yard box that found the back of the net. The goal was Eiben's first of the season.
Just before half-time Kent State took the lead 2-1 when Williams scored what proved to be the game-winner. Williams received a pass from sophomore Kristen Brotts in the top-center of the box and fired a shot past Bowling Green goalkeeper Alexis Smith.
Hellstrom scored her team and leading 10th goal of the season just 15 seconds into the second half at the 45:15 mark of the second half. Hellstrom sprinted downfield and took a pass from senior Madison Helterbran at center field about 30 yards away from goal. Hellstrom then beat one Falcon defender and drilled a shot from 23 yards out that found the back of the net.
Capehart capped off the scoring for the Golden Flashes with a great header off of a cross from Brittany Maisano in the 52nd minute. Capehart who was in fron of goal headed a cross from Maisano that came in from the right corner. The goal, gave Capehart her eighth of the season and Kent State its 4-1 victory.
The Golden Flashes dominated the game after falling behind early and outshot the Falcons 23-4 on the night. Kent State also outworked Bowling Green for a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Kent State is back on the field when it hosts Eastern Michigan on Sunday, October 18th at 1 p.m.
