AUSTIN, Texas - For the second time in program history, No. 8 Kent State women's golf has won its third consecutive tournament title. The Golden Flashes wrapped up the win by shooting 4-under on Tuesday to win the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational by eight strokes.
The feat was also completed in 2002 by a team that won the first three events of the season en route to a NCAA Championship appearance.
Kent State came in at 5-under with a total score of 859. No. 37 Texas Tech landed in 2nd place at 3-over through the three-round event. No. 21 UNLV finished in 3rd place at 10-over, ahead of host Texas. The Golden Flashes were the only team to shoot under par in the final round to capitalize on the victory.
Taylor Kim, who was ranked 17th in the nation entering the event, finished 2nd on the individual leaderboard after shooting 1-under on the final day and 4-under overall.
Josée Doyon came in at 5th place after a 1-under performance both on the day and in the tournament. Amira Alexander also broke into the top 25 with a 17th-place finish. She shot even par on Tuesday to end 3-over.
Wad Phaewchimplee tied for 28th at 7-over while Michaela Finn was 8-over to end tied for 31st.
As a team, the Golden Flashes led the field on par fives, coming in at 11-under. They tied Texas Tech with the second-most birdies with 50. Kim tied for the second-most pars with 38.
The victory caps off the fall season for Kent State. The team will return to action February 8-9 at the Mid-American Match Play Challenge in Bradenton, Florida.
