BOERNE, Texas – For just the third time in program history, No. 9 Kent State women's golf has won its second consecutive regular season tournament by finishing the Jim West Challenge with an 852 total score, 12-under par.
In just her second collegiate competition, Michaela Finn took home individual medalist honors as she tied for 1st place at 5-under after shooting 1-under on the day.
"I was very proud of the overall performance by everyone on the team," said Head Coach Greg Robertson. "They came out strong and didn't let up for 54 holes. It was great to se Michaela step up and win in only her second tournament out as a freshman. It,s always great to to only win the team title but also get the individual win as well, and we've been fortunate enough to do it twice in a row,"
The three-round tournament total is the third lowest ever by women's golf. The last time the Golden Flashes won consecutive tournaments in the regular season was in the fall of 2013.  Before that, it was accomplished the first time in program history in the fall of 2002; that team went on to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
The Golden Flashes were the only team to finish under par in the event and had the second-best score in the final round at 2-under. They finished twelve strokes ahead of 2nd-place Florida State. No. 19 Texas A&M came in at 3-over in 3rd place.
Taylor Kim had a final round of 2-under to finish 3-under overall in a tie for 5th place. Wad Phaewchimplee had an even par day to tie for 11th place at 1-under.
Amira Alexander was 2-over in the tournament to finish in a tie for 16th while Josée Doyon finished tied for 30th at 7-over.
Kent State was the best in the field on par fours at 4-under; the next best team was 10-over on par fours. The Golden Flashes had the second-most pars and birdies with 174 and 50, respectively.
Kim tied for the best performance in the field on par three scoring. Phaewchimplee was second on par fours.Â
The team will have a week off before concluding the fall season at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational hosted by the University of Texas October 19-20.
