CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced on Friday that Kent State's Leon Takagi has been named the conference's Women's Golfer of the Week.
Takagi is the first Golden Flash to earn the honor in the 2025-26 season, following an impressive start to the Fall marked by two top-five finishes. The Tokyo native was Kent State's low scorer across 54 holes at last weekend's Wolverine Invitational, where the Flashes claimed the team victory over a field featuring nine power conference schools.
The senior tallied a 1-over-par 214 to finish alone in fourth place among the 81 golfers competing in Ann Arbor. Her second-round 3-under-par 68 highlighted the event, as it was her first round in the 60s since her sophomore season in 2023-24, a year she was named MAC Golfer of the Year and was an individual medalist at the MAC Championship. Takagi's 12 birdies at the Wolverine Invitational were tied for the highest total in the field.
Takagi and the Golden Flashes will return to action on Monday, September 22, as the team heads North to Ontario, Canada, to serve as a co-host of the inaugural Women's Canadian Collegiate at Beacon Hall Golf Club.
