ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Kent State women's golf team earned its first team victory of the 2025-26 season on Monday at the Wolverine Invitational. The Golden Flashes posted an 11-over-par 295 in round three to finish atop the 15 teams competing at 17-over-par.
Monday's win marks the first time the Kent State team has won a tournament outside of the MAC Championship since the Sunflower Invitational in October 2022. The Flashes finished six strokes ahead of second-placed Virginia, who concluded at 23-over-par, to claim the pole position atop a loaded field.
Leon Takagi cemented her second consecutive top-five finish to begin the season with a strong third round on Monday. The senior from Tokyo, who posted Kent State's best 54-hole finish, posted a 2-over-par 73 in round three to secure a fourth-place finish. Takagi led the tournament with 12 birdies across three rounds, including two in round three.
Despite posting a 10-over-par 81 in round three, Aryn Matthews concludes the Wolverine Invitational tied for 11th place, the second-best 54-hole finish for Kent State. Matthews tied for third among all 81 golfers competing with 11 birdies throughout her tournament, which fueled a strong opening two rounds on Sunday.
Veronika Kedronova fired Kent State's lowest score in Monday's third round with a 1-over-par 72. The star junior's impressive final 18, featuring two birdies to just three bogeys, was tied for the sixth-best individual round on the day. Kedronova's round three performance allowed her to climb 11 spots on the individual leaderboard to a tied 16th-place finish, her second consecutive top-20 finish to start the season.
Isabella Goyette posted a 4-over-par 75 during Monday's third round to post an 11-over-par finish. The sophomore concludes the Wolverine Invitational tied for 29th place. Petra Babicova fired the Flashes' final score countable toward the team total in round three, carding a 4-over-par 75 of her own, including four birdies. Babicova finishes at 13-over-par, good enough for a 37th-place finish to ensure that all five members of the Kent State lineup were in the top half of the final individual standings.
The Golden Flashes will return to action on Monday, September 22, as the team heads North to Ontario, Canada, to serve as a co-host of the inaugural Women's Canadian Collegiate at Beacon Hall Golf Club.
