
Flashes Tipoff Season Sunday at Home Versus Colgate

Women's basketball will officially begin the 2015-16 season on Sunday afternoon at the M.A.C. Center when Colgate comes to town for a 2 p.m. tipoff.

The Matchup
• Kent State is 2-0 all-time against Colgate, including a buzzer-beater, one-point victory on the road last season
• The Raiders finished 9-22 a year ago, including 7-11 in Patriot League play
• The teams' other meeting was at a neutral site in 1988. The Golden Flashes won that game 96-83
Exhibition Recap
• Last Sunday, Kent State beat Hiram 73-45 in an exhibition match
• Larissa Lurken led all in scoring with 24 points while Tyra James finished with 13 points and six rebounds
• Freshman Merissa Barber-Smith was a point shy of a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds
Building Blocks
• The Golden Flashes went 5-25 overall and 3-15 in conference play last season
• Lurken led the team in scoring by averaging 11.1 points while Jordan Korinek was third in scoring with 7.2
• Korinek was also third on the team in rebounds by averaging 4.6 per game while Lurken was fourth with 3.0
• Naddiyah Cross started 15 of the team's 30 games at point guard, gaining valuable experience during her freshman campaign where she racked up 84 assists and 21 steals
Home Court Advantage
• Kent State will play just three non-conference games on the road this season, with the majority of the first half played in the friendly confines of the M.A.C. Center
• The team will then host an 11 a.m. kids game on Tuesday, November 17th when Wright State comes to Kent
• Tuesday, November 24th will be a double-header with the men's team. The women will take on Minnesota at 6:30 p.m.
• On Saturday, December 5th the Golden Flashes will host Victor Day where those who are suffering or have suffered with cancer will be honored. More details on the event will come
• Kent State's non-conference road schedule contains a game at IPFW on Thursday, November 19th, at Bradley on Tuesday, December 8th, and at Youngstown State on Saturday, December 12th
More Than Just Basketball
• Kent State has made its presence known in the community during this past summer and fall
• This summer, the team averaged two hours a week volunteering at various places across the local area, including preparing meals at the Center for Hope in Ravenna and spending time with the residents at Kent Ridge
• Recently, the team was honored as Friend of the Kent Schools by the Board of Education for its dedication and hours spent with students at Davey Elementary
