Kent State Drops 60-49 Contest to Cleveland State

KENT, Ohio – Kent State (2-4) dropped a 60-49 contest to Cleveland State (1-4) Wednesday night at the M.A.C. Center.
The Golden Flashes got out to an early lead and maintained it throughout the first quarter, leading 16-10 after the first ten minutes played.
In the second quarter, the Vikings started connecting from three-point range to take the game into their hands. Despite missing all 13 tries from deep range in the first, Cleveland State connected on all six in the second quarter to get ahead 32-24 at the half.
Out of the break, Kent State trailed by as many as 12 but worked its way back in to make it a three-point game as the final seconds winded down in the third quarter. Cleveland State banked in a shot from just inside the half court line at the buzzer to lead by six, 46-40, with ten minutes remaining in the contest.
Another three and back-to-back layups by the Vikings kept the Flashes at bay, grabbing their biggest lead of the night at 13 late in the fourth en route to the 60-49.
Both teams had an even 22 points in the paint while Cleveland State won the rebound margin 41-35 and committed one less turnover on the night as the teams combined for 45.
Jordan Korinek led the team in scoring for the third-straight game, ending with 16 points and seven rebounds. Larissa Lurken finished with 12. Tyra James matched Korinek with seven rebounds while leading the team with three assists and three steals.
