Tayala Resets School Record in Weight Throw; Men's T&F Completes Tune Up Saturday

KENT, Ohio – Kent State's men's track and field team performed well at the Kent State Tune Up on Saturday, February 21st in the Kent State Field House.
The Golden Flashes saw top three finishes in multiple events, and a school record get reset in the weight throw. Matthias Tayala reset his own school record in his third and final throw of the night, calling it quits after that.
Placing in first were William Barnes in the 60m hurdles, Roosevelt Dotson in the high jump, and Jesse Oxley in the pole vault.Â
Barnes ran the fastest time of 7.80 seconds in the finals of the 60m hurdles. Dotson had a mark of 2.10m (6' 10.75") in his event. Oxley finished with a height of 5.18m (17').
Second place finishes included Devin Monroe in the 60m dash, Miles Dunlap in the 400m dash, Matthias Tayala in the weight throw and Jailyn Twitty in the triple jump.
Monroe finished with a time of 6.95 seconds. Dunlap finished the 400m dash in 47.78 seconds.
Tayala reset his own school record in the weight throw with the distance of 74' 1.75".Â
Twitty took second in the triple jump with a final height of 14.97m (49' 1.5").Â
Taking third place at the Tune Up were Matthew Tobin in the 400m dash, Xavier Braxton in the long jump, Andrew O'Leary in the 200m dash, and Jagers in the weight throw.
Tobin followed right behind Dunlap with a tenth of a second difference at 47.79 seconds. Braxton rounded out the long jump with his mark of 7.11m (23' 4").Â
Jagers took third with a heave of 21.13m (69' 4"). He set his personal-record by six feet and now sits fourth all-time in Kent State history.
Kent State travels to Mount Pleasant, Mich. next weekend, February 27th and 28th to participate in the Mid-American Conference Championships, hosted by Central Michigan.Â
