Pitchers' Duel Falls Away from Flashes in Extras

KENT, Ohio – A two-run homerun in the top of the 12th inning would be the deciding factor in a game that looked to go the Flashes' way through nine. Kent State fell to even its record back at .500 (7-7) as Rider (3-8) snuck away with the win in extras 3-1.
For the majority of the game, it appeared the Flashes would take a 1-0 win as both starters settled in nicely for a classic pitchers' duel. Eric Lauer went seven shutout innings with six hits, no walks and seven strikeouts. The only mark on Rider's starter was a solo blast over the right field wall courtesy of Dylan Rosa. It was the second career dinger for Rosa in as many days.
It would stay a 1-0 game until the 9th when the Broncs were given the lead after three, two-out walks loaded the bases and a hit batter tied the game. Neither team could get much going until Rider won it on a single and homerun to right center.
Luke Burch went 2-for-6 on the day while Rosa added in a double to his homerun to lead the way offensively.
Zach Willeman followed Lauer in relief with two innings, one run, three walks and two strikeouts. Josh Pierce finished the game on the mound as he went three innings with four hits, two runs and three strikeouts.
The Golden Flashes will try to win their first home series of the season in the finale with Rider Sunday at 1 p.m.
