TOLEDO, Ohio – Kent State (8-8, 0-1) dropped its first conference game of the season 4-1 at Toledo (7-14, 1-0) Friday afternoon.
A bases-loaded fielder's choice gave Jeff Revesz the first RBI of the day in the 1st inning to give the visitors an early advantage.
That lead did not last long as an error and homerun put the Rockets in front 2-1 in the 4th. Toledo scored two again in the 5th on a wild pitch and another homerun to take the game 4-1.
The Golden Flashes left 11 men on board in the contest and struck out 14 times in an uncharacteristic offensive day.
Nick Jensen-Clagg did his job in the start, allowing just two earned runs through 6.1 innings with four hits and one walk. He struck out nine batters, tying his career-high set at Liberty earlier this season. Eli Kraus followed and kept his ERA at zero with no hits and one walk in 1.1 innings. Zach Spangler also did not allow a run, hit, or walk as he grabbed the final out.
Luke Burch had two of Kent State's six hits. Revesz and Tim DalPorto had the only extra-base hits, both with a double.
The two teams meet on Saturday at 1 p.m. for the second game of the series.
