KENT, Ohio – Kent State (19-12, 8-4) excelled in all facets of the game Sunday afternoon to complete the series win over Ball State (22-12, 8-4) in an 11-7 victory.
Andy Ravel put on another great performance on the mound to go a perfect 4-0 in conference play. He went 7.1 innings in the start with seven hits, two runs, one walk and four strikeouts for his fifth win on the season. His offense backed him up with 11 runs on 15 hits while his defense committed just one error, coming late in the game.
The Cardinals were able to get ahead with a run in the 1st and one in the 2nd, but the Golden Flashes tied things up in the bottom of the 2nd frame. In the inning, Jeff Revesz doubled to start things off before Luca Fuscardo singled him home. After Fuscardo stole a base, he scored on a Sawyer Polen single.
Kent State broke the game open with a three-run 4th. Revesz again led the way with a single. A fielder's choice, error and bunt single then loaded the bases for Dylan Rosa to drop in a bloop single to left field. Polen then grabbed another RBI on a sacrifice fly. Zarley Zalewski followed with another sacrifice fly to make it a 5-2 game.
In the 6th, Polen had a base hit and Zalewski doubled him home. The Golden Flashes added a big cushion to their lead with a five-run 8th. Curtis Olvey walked and scored on a Jeff Revesz double. Tim DalPorto then singled Revesz home. After a error and base hit loaded the bases, Polen came up with another big at-bat, as he double to center to clear the bases and make it an 11-2 game.
The Cardinals attempted a rally in the 9th, scoring five runs, but Zach Spangler came in to get the final out to keep the victory.
Polen, Zalewski and Revesz all had three hits on the day. Polen led the way with five RBI. Revesz had two doubles.
Kent State travels for two midweek games this week. They play at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at Pittsburgh and 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Youngstown State.
