Men's T&F Place 11 in the Top-10 on Final Day of Jesse Owens Track Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Kent State's men's track and field team returns home after a great final day of the Jesse Owens Track Classic on Saturday, May 2nd which was hosted at the Ohio State University.
The Golden Flashes saw 11 top-10 placers on the final day of competition in Columbus, Ohio. Kent State had five top-5 placers in Matthias Tayala, Wayne Gordon, Kyle Tywon, Matthew Tobin and William Barnes.
Matthias Tayala took home second place honors in the hammer throw championship section with a heave of 69.84m (229' 1") to place as the first collegiate athlete behind A.G. Kruger.
Matthew Tobin took home third place in the 400m dash in a time of 47.20 at the Jesse Owens Memorial Track in Columbus.
William Barnes placed fourth in the 200m dash in a time of 21.22 before later teaming up in the 4x400m relay. Barnes matched up with Tobin, Danny Young and Andrew O'Leary to take sixth in the race in a time of 3:15.67.
Wayne Gordon and Kyle Tywon both finished their races in fifth place on the afternoon. Gordon ran the 100m dash in a time of 10.67, while Tywon ran the 110m hurdles in a time of 14.54.
Tywon also ran the 400m hurdles for a seventh place finish at 54.75-seconds.
Xaiver Braxton finished seventh in the long jump with a distance of 7.07m (23' 2.5").
Jonathan Grant took eighth behind Gordon in the 100m dash with a time of 10.77.
Roosevelt Dotson and Kyle Schlumbohm each finished in 10th place in their respective events. Dotson in the high jump, took 10th at 2.01m (6' 7"), as Schlumbohm in the pole vault tied for 10th at 4.75m (15' 7").
Sitting outside the top-10 and looking was Danny Young in the 400m hurdles and Jonathan Grant in the long jump. Young took 11th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.79, as Grant took 11th in the long jump with a best mark 6.85m (22' 5.75").
The Golden Flashes track and field team returns to action next weekend, Friday, May 8th and Saturday May 9th as they compete at the Campbell Wright Open in Akron, Ohio.
