Walk-off Win Ends Pitchers' Duel as Flashes Take Game 3-2

KENT, Ohio – In dramatic fashion, Kent State (27-19, 14-8) was able to walk-off in a pitchers' duel Friday night as Conner Simonetti's 9^th-inning single solidified a 3-2 victory over Bowling Green (19-25, 11-11).

The Golden Flashes edged ahead 2-1 going into the 9^th, but the Falcons hit a single and double to tie the game. In the bottom of the frame, Sawyer Polen led off with a walk and an error allowed Zarley Zalewski to reach and put runners on the corners. Simonetti then slapped a base hit to the left field corner to bring home the winning run and end the game.

Both starters had solid outings as Nick Jensen-Clagg gave up a solo homerun in the 2^nd before Polen tied it with a solo shot of his own over the high wall in right center. Kent State pulled ahead 2-1 in the 8^th to set up the dramatic finish when Brad Hamilton doubled and scored on a groundout after advancing on a sacrifice bunt by Reilly Hawkins.

Jensen-Clagg went 6.0 innings with three hits, one run, three walks and six strikeouts. Dan Kopcak threw 2.2 innings in relief with three hits, one run and one strikeout. Zach Willeman was awarded the win as he got the final Bowling Green batter out.

Polen finished 1-for-2 at the plate with two runs, two walks and a RBI. Zalewski joined Polen, Simonetti and Hamilton as the only batters to get a hit in the contest for the Flashes.

Saturday's game is set to begin at 1 p.m. with a pregame ceremony honoring the team's graduating student-athletes.
