SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Kent State women's golf's impressive season came to an end on Saturday as the team wrapped up a 9th place finish at NCAA Regionals.
The Golden Flashes shot 10-over in the final round to be at 32-over in the three-round event. Duke led the way at 9-over, a three-stroke victory. The top six teams will now advance to the NCAA Championship.
"We had our opportunities this week but fell a little short," said Head Coach Greg Robertson. "That was tough after missing it by a shot last year."
Taylor Kim was close to being the third-consecutive individual qualifier for Kent State, but fell just short as she lost the third individual spot to advance on the second hole in a three-person playoff. She finished the regional in a tie for 10th place at 3-over after a final round of even par golf.
"It was great to see Taylor play well and put herself in a position to make it as an individual," Robertson said."
Wad Phaewchimplee also shot even on the final day to finish tied for 26th at 7-over. Natalie Goodson wrapped up her Kent State career with a 11-over event after a 4-over day on Saturday. Fellow senior Jennifer Ha finished at 15-over after shooting 6-over. Josée Doyon ended her impressive season in a tie for 56th at 14-over after finishing with a round of 8-over.
"I was really wanting to see our seniors Natalie and Jennifer extend the season and finish out their career at the NCAA Championship," Robertson added. "They have both done a lot for this golf program and we are so thankful for their time on the team."
The team's 296.91 scoring average this season and 10.73 scoring average over par are new program records. Phaewchimplee, Doyon and Kim's season scoring averages all join the top-ten at Kent State.
