Flashes Make Jump for Fourth Place Finish

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Kent State moved up the leaderboard on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 4th place at the Minnesota Invitational.
"I think we got a lot out of this tournament," said Head Coach Greg Robertson. "We found out that we have some things we need to work on, and at the same time we saw a lot of good things out of everyone that leads me to believe this could be a very promising year."
The team shot a final round of 297, 9-over to finish at 31-over par, 11 strokes behind winner Purdue. The Golden Flashes tied with the host Gophers.
Wad Phaewchimplee shot a final round of 2-over to be 5-over at the end of the tournament. She broke into the top ten with a 7th place finish. Josée Doyon ended the event at 5-over for a tie for 15th place after a 3-over day.
Taylor Kim had the best final round of even par golf to finish in a tie for 20th at 10-over. Fellow Flash Amira Alexander also finished at 10-over after shooting 4-over on Tuesday. Maddy Mullins rounded out the Kent State competition in 42nd place at 16-over.
Kent State lead the field in par three scoring and par five scoring, at 12-over and 8-under, respectively. The Golden Flashes had the third-most birdies in the tournament with 38.
Mullins was even on par threes throughout the three rounds, which ranked third—best among all competitors. Alexander tied for the best scoring on par fives, coming in at 5-under. Doyon had the third-most birdies with ten.
Kent State will head to Knoxville, Tennessee, next for the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate. The event will take place Monday, September 21 through Tuesday, September 22nd.
