
Women’s Soccer Takes on Vermont & New Hampshire at TD Bank Classic

BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Kent State women's soccer traveled east to compete in the University of Vermont's TD Bank Classic this weekend at Virtue Field. The Golden Flashes will challenge the host Catamounts at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4, and will then take on New Hampshire at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 6.
The games will be streamed online for free in HD via AmericaEast.tv. Tickets can be purchased online at UVMathletics.com or in person one hour before kickoff at the Gutterson Fieldhouse Box Office.
Kent State is currently 1-1-1 on the season and is coming off a 2-2 tie against Louisville last Friday afternoon. Junior forward Jenna Hellstrom leads the team in scoring with nine points, collecting three goals and three assists. She also leads the Mid-American Conference (MAC) in points, points per game and assists. Sophomore Kristen Brots has also scored twice for the Golden Flashes.
Freshman Ashleah McDonald and sophomore Katie Kingsbury have split time in goal. McDonald has played 162 minutes and has allowed one goal (0.55 gaa) and has 10 saves (.909). She leads the MAC in both goals against average and save percentage. Kent State also leads the MAC in a few categories, including points (27), goals per game (2.67) and assists (11).
Vermont stands at 1-1 on the year after dropping a 1-0 decision at Manhattan in its season opener but came back with a 1-0 win at Iona. Nikki McFarland's goal in the fourth minute helped the Catamounts earn their first road win shutout under head coach Kristi Lefebve. Vermont has won the TD Bank Classic three times (2014, 2009, 2003).
New Hampshire, making its 12th appearance at the TD Bank Classic, is 1-1-2 on the year. The Wildcats opened the year with back-to-back double OT draws against Rhode Island and UMass. New Hampshire posted a 2-0 win over Holy Cross, but fell 2-0 at Siena last weekend. Sophomore Brooke Murphy, recently named America East Player of the Week, leads the team in scoring with four points on two goals. Junior goalkeeper Mimi Borkan had her scoreless streak broken at 350 minutes, 23 seconds. She has allowed just two goals (0.45 gaa), has 22 saves (.917) and three shutouts.
This weekend will be the first time that Kent State has played both Vermont and Quinnipiac.
After the weekend, Kent State will travel to Indiana for a game against Butler on Friday, Sept. 11.
