No. 9 Men's Golf Finishes Round One at Blackthorn

KENT, Ohio – The No. 9 Kent State men's golf team wrapped up the first round of the Bank of Tennessee Invitational at the par-72 Blackthorn Club at the Ridges in ninth place at one-under par 287.
Kent State had a productive first round and are within range of the lead with 36 holes remaining. The Golden Flashes were one of 9 teams that finished under par, all within 10 strokes of each other. Missouri currently leads the tournament at 10-under par.
All five golfers in the lineup finished within four strokes of each other, giving the Flashes an opportunity to make a run as a unit over the weekend. Leading the pack is Ian Holt, currently in a tie for 14th at two-under par 70. Holt secured two birdies on the back nine to finish under par.
Josh Whalen finished one stroke behind Holt and one-under par in a tie for 22nd. Whalen did not record a bogey the entire round. In a tie for 34th, Gisli Sveinbergsson and Chris Doody each shot one-over par 73. The duo combined for seven birdies in round one.
Nationally-ranked top-50 golfer Chase Johnson rounded out the lineup at two-over par 74, good for a tie for 47th. Competing as an individual, Bjarki Petursson finished his first round in a tie with two of his teammates in 34th at one-over par 73.
