Wagon Wheel Challenge Returns Wednesday at Akron

The Wagon Wheel Challenge will return to the hardwood this Wednesday when Kent State (5-17, 2-10) travels over to Akron (12-11, 6-6) for a 7 p.m. contest.

• Kent State currently leads the annual Wagon Wheel Challenge by a score of 3.0 to 2.0
• The Challenge awards a point for each team that wins the season's matchups between the two rival schools
• The Golden Flashes have won the challenge all three years of its existence
O'Banion Named USBWA Most Courageous Award Winner
• The U.S. Basketball Writers Association announced Monday that Head Coach Danielle O'Banion has been named the Pat Summitt Most Courageous Award Winner for women's basketball
• The award is given annually to honor players, coaches, officials or administrators in college basketball who have demonstrated extraordinary courage in the face of adversity
• O'Banion earned the recognition after her brave fight with Stage 2 lymphoma during the 2014-15 season
• She will receive her award at the NCAA Women's Final Four in Indianapolis on April 3
A Strong Spurt
• Kent State has played very well in its last three games, going down to the wire in two and grabbing a big win over Ball State
• In both the game at Miami and at home against Toledo the Golden Flashes had a chance to extend the game but shots at both final buzzers rimmed out to result in narrow defeats
• In its most recent game, Kent State took down a top MAC West team in Ball State by a score of 59-50
