Flashes Lose to MAC's Top Team Ohio

ATHENS, Ohio – Kent State (5-20, 2-13) faced a tough foe Wednesday night at Ohio (22-4, 14-1) , falling by a final score of 86-52.
The Bobcats scored first out of the opening tip and went on to lead 32-12 at the end of the first quarter. The Golden Flashes finished the half by successfully making their last four attempts from the floor to find themselves behind by a score of 47-29.
Through the first two periods, Ohio worked well inside, scoring 32 points in the paint and grabbing 23 rebounds, eight more than Kent State.
To start the third period, the Bobcats went on a 10-0 run before Tyra James was able to sink foul shots to stop the streak. The Golden Flashes struggled in the period, shooting just 2-for-17 as the deficit grew to 74-41 with ten minutes left to play.
Jordan Korinek came out strong in the 4th, hitting back-to-back jumpers and then connecting at the line for three free throws and seven points in the quarter with more than three minutes left.
However, Kent State could not work itself back in to the game as it lost 86-52.
Ohio outrebounded 48-35 while scoring 44 points in the paint through the full 40 minutes. Korinek was the high scorer for the Flashes with 18 and five rebounds. Chelsi Watson had a good night with 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Kent State returns home on Saturday for a Wagon Wheel Challenge matchup with Akron. The game is set to tip at 2pm. Tickets can be purchased online at kentstatesports.com or by calling the ticket office at 330-672-2244.
