
T&F Opens Outdoor Season with Yellow Jacket Relays

The Kent State track and field teams begin the outdoor portion of their 2016 schedule with the Yellow Jacket Relays in Atlanta, Georgia, slated for Friday, March 25th and Saturday, March 26th.

2015-16 Indoor Season Recap
Kent State's 2015-16 indoor season concluded two weeks ago with seniors William Barnes and Donovan Tolbert competing at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala. Both student-athletes were named Second Team All-American with Tolbert taking 12th in the triple jump at 15.52m (50' 11"), and Barnes taking 15th in the preliminary round of the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.06.
At the MAC Championships on Feb. 26-27, the men's and women's teams both finished third in the team standings, the men scoring 109 points and the women scoring 87 points. Roseanne Erickson, William Barnes, Donovan Tolbert, and Roosevelt Dotson were all named First Team All-MAC after earning MAC titles in their respected events.
Erickson captured the women's long jump title with an indoor personal-record jump of 6.24m (20' 5.75"). Tolbert took the triple jump title with a mark of 16.04m (52' 7.50"), while Dotson was crowned the high jump champion with a mark of 2.12m (6' 11.50").
Barnes concluded the championship with two individual titles, taking first in the 60mH (7.69) and the 200m dash (20.91).
2016 Outdoor Season
The Golden Flashes have a busy 2016 outdoor schedule beginning this weekend in Atlanta. Their next scheduled competition is the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 1st, followed by the Hilltopper Relays in Bowling Green, Kentucky on April 8th and 9th.
The Flashes will then return to Ohio for the Northeast Ohio Quad (April 15th and 16th) and the Jesse Owens Classic (April 22nd and 23rd), before the team splits up to take part in three different meets April 27th through the 30th.
Part of the team will head to Des Moines, Iowa April 27th- 30th for the Drake Relays. That same weekend, part of the Golden Flashes will head to the Hillsdale College Gina Relays on April 29th and 30th, while some athletes will compete in the Ashland Open on April 29th and 30th.
Kent State will finish out the regular season in Akron at the Campbell-Wright Open May 6th and 7th, before heading to Toledo May 12th through the 14th for the 2016 Outdoor MAC Championships.
This year's NCAA East Regional competition for the Flashes will be held in Jacksonville, Fla. May 26th- 28th, with hopes of sending athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., slated for June 8th- 11th.
2016 Yellow Jacket Relays
The field for this year's Yellow Jacket Relays with feature 13 teams including Auburn (M/W), Clemson (M/W), East Tennessee State (M/W), Furman (M/W), Georgia (M/W), Georgia State (W), Georgia Tech (M/W), Kennesaw State (M/W), Kent State (M/W), Middle Tennessee State (M/W), South Carolina (M/W), UNC-Asheville (M/W), and Western Carolina (M/W).
Competition is set to begin Friday evening at 6:00pm with the women's and men's hammer throw, followed by the women's and men's 5000m run at 8:30pm. Action in the field events picks up Saturday morning at 10:30am with the shot put (M/W) and the javelin (W/M). Running events will begin at 12:30pm on Saturday with the women's 4x100m relay followed by the men's relay.
After the Yellow Jacket Relays, the Golden Flashes will head to Cincinnati, Ohio for the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational on April 1st.
