Throwers and Distance Runners Have Solid Outing at Cherry Blossom Invitational

ATHENS, Ohio – Kent State's throwers and distance runners had an impressive showing at the Ohio Cherry Blossom on Saturday, April 2nd in Athens, Ohio.
Four Golden Flashes came away from the Cherry Blossom Invitational with victories. In her first competition this season, senior Jackie Leppelmeier captured the hammer throw title with a mark of 58.54m (192' 0").
Reggie Jagers finished with victories in the hammer and discus throws, posting marks of 60.35m (198' 0") and 54.04m (177' 3"), respectively. Micheal King captured the men's shot put title with a throw of 17.76m (58' 3.25"). King added a 3rd place finish in the hammer throw (50.49m) and a 5th place finish in the discus (17.76m).
On the track, Brandon Avers was victorious in the 1,500m run with a time of 4:09.61. Taking 2nd place was Zane Kahkonen Keppler with a time of 4:09.74, followed by Nick Schank in 3rd place (4:11.34). Keppler also ran the 800m, finishing 4th at 2:06.13. Bayley Tow ran the 5,000m in 16:01.92, taking 6th place.
Gabrielle Figueroa finished second overall in the hammer throw, posting a mark of 57.58m (188' 11"), moving her passed Beth Weyer (188' 5", 2002) for 4th place all-time.
David Paliscak took 2nd in the shot put and 6th in the discus with marks of 16.99m (55' 9") and 47.57 (156' 1"), respectively.
Golden Flashes took three of the top five spots in the women's discus. Rebecca Leppelmeier took 2nd with a distance of 49.54m (162' 6"), followed by Jai'Lyn Mosley in 3rd (48.36m) and Ada Nicholson-Burley in 5th (45.39). Nicholson-Burley also competed in the shot put, taking 4th with a mark of 13.01m (42' 8.25"). Victoria Ross finished 8th in the discus with a distance of 41.1m (134' 10").
In the 5,000m run, Morgan Bing captured 2nd place with a time of 18:43.58. Jesse Slingluff finished 3rd with a time 18:52.53, followed by Madison Spreitzer in 4th (19:12.77), Robin Foster in 5th (19:23.40), and Katie Schmidt in 8th (19:52.14).
Morgan Manuel came away with 3rd place in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:59.51. Brigid Callaghan finished with a time of 5:05.22 in the 1,500m, good enough for 14th place, followed by Mallory Vetter in 20th (5:14.78).
The Golden Flashes return action on Saturday, April 8th-9th in the Hilltopper Relays and the All-Ohio Outdoor Championships.
