
Track and Field Sends Four to NCAA Championships

Four members of Kent State's track and field programs are set to compete in the 2016 NCAA Outdoor National Championships in Eugene, Oregon at Historic Hayward Field at the University of Oregon. The four-day championship is slated to begin Wednesday, June 8 and conclude Saturday, June 11.

The four Golden Flashes bound for Eugene are Jackie Leppelmeier (hammer throw), Reggie Jagers III (discus), Jesse Oxley (pole vault) and Donovan Tolbert (triple jump).
Jesse Oxley will be the first Kent State athlete to see action from Historic Hayward Field. Oxley, a senior, will make his first NCAA championship appearance in the men's pole vault at 5:00pm PDT/ 8:00 EDT on Wednesday, June 8. At the NCAA East Regional, Oxley tied his personal and school record mark of 5.30m (17' 4.5") to finish tied for seventh and advance to Eugene.
Next up for the Golden Flashes will be Jackie Leppelmeier, making her third appearance at the outdoor national championships. Leppelmeier, a senior, is slated to compete in the women's hammer throw at 2:00pm PDT/ 5:00pm EDT on Thursday, June 9, as she looks to improve upon her 14th place finish from last year's championship. This season, Leppelmeier was the MAC champion in the hammer throw and finished third at the NCAA East Regional with a mark of 61.24m (200' 11").Â
The third athlete to compete for Kent State will be Reggie Jagers III. Jagers, a redshirt junior, will compete in the men's discus at 5:05pm PDT/ 8:05 EDT on Friday, June 10, marking his third appearance in the discus at the outdoor championships. Jagers' best championship finish came in 2014, when he finished 10th with a mark of 57.88m (189' 11"). At the NCAA East Regional, Jagers broke the school discus record and took fourth place with a mark of 60.17m (197' 5").
Also competing on Friday will be Donovan Tolbert. Tolbert, a senior, is scheduled to compete in the men's triple jump at 5:30pm PDT/ 8:30 EDT, as he makes his first career appearance at the outdoor championships. Tolbert punched his ticket to Eugene with a personal-record mark of 15.96m (52' 4.5") to finish eighth at the NCAA East Regional.  At the indoor championships earlier this year, Tolbert finished 12th with a mark of 15.52m (50' 11"), earning Second Team All-American honors.Â
