No. 16 Women's Golf in Second After 36 Holes in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 16 Kent State University women's golf team is in a tight battle for the title after two rounds at the 20th Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship, hosted by Tennessee, at the Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Kent State will enter Tuesday's final round with a one-over par score 569 (286-283). That score puts the defending champions in second place overall, six strokes back from Illinois and a stroke ahead of No. 7 Florida.
The day was highlighted by a spectacular collegiate debut from freshman Pimnipa Panthong. The new Golden Flash leads the entire field with a two-round score of 135 (67-68). At seven-under par, Panthong is three strokes ahead of the second place.
Panthong is joined in the top-10 by Michaela Finn, who is tied for 10th with a one-over par score of 143. She opened the day with a 73 and finished strong at one-under par in the second round. In a tie for 19th, Wad Phaewchimplee finished her day at two-over par 144. After a 75 in the first round, she was one stroke off her team's leader at 69 in the second.
With a score of 147, Karoline Stormo sits in a tie for 35th place. Stormo carded an on-par 71 to start the day, followed by a 76 in the next round. Rounding out Kent State was Kelly Nielsen, who is in 75th at 158. She recorded a score of 78 in the first round and an 80 in the second.
