KENT, Ohio – The Kent State University women's golf team enters its second tournament of the fall with a high national ranking, coming in at fourth nationally in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
The Golden Flashes are coming off a second-place finish at the Mercedes-Benz Championship, holding their own against a tough field. That performance gave the team a rating of 70.53, going 6-1-1 against the national top-25.
Individually, Pimnipa Panthong's record-breaking collegiate debut in winning the tournament allowed her to make a splash at fourth nationally as an individual. Her rating sits at 67.74, making her the highest ranking collegiate golfer in the Midwest and northeast quadrant of the country.
Michaela Finn also had a strong season debut, placing her at 18th in the country. The Golden Flashes are one of only three schools in the NCAA with multiple top-20 ranked golfers. Decorated senior Wad Phaewchimplee wraps up Kent State's top-100 golfers nationally at 88th.
Florida and Oklahoma State came in just a few percentage points ahead of the Golden Flashes, while Alabama holds the top spot. Kent State will get to measure themselves against the top ranked team this weekend in the Schooner Fall Classic.
