BUFFALO, N.Y. โ The Kent State soccer team (9-4-1, 5-1 MAC) recorded its Mid-American Conference leading eighth shutout of the season, in its, 1-0, victory over Buffalo (5-6-2, 3-2-1 MAC). Senior Hayden Pascoe's goal in the 57th minute proved to be the difference maker, as the Golden Flashes were able to hold on for the win.
Pascoe netted her second goal of the season on the right side seven yards out, on a shot that bounced off the crossbar and took a fortuitous bounce off the foot of a UB player and into the net. Freshman Vital Kats picked up her fourth assist of the year.
The Flashes had a scoring opportunity in the early goings at the eight-minute mark when Kats ran down the middle of the field, and her breakaway shot ricocheted off the crossbar. ย
The Kent State defense once again set the tone for the match, shutting out a MAC opponent for the fourth time this year. Buffalo outshot Kent State 10-9, but did not put any shots on goal. It's the second time the Flashes haven't allowed a shot on goal this year, as Kent State's defense accomplished the same feat against St. Bonaventure on Aug. 27th.
The defense hasn't surrendered a multi-goal game in ten consecutive matches. The last team to score two goals against Kent State, was Florida Gulf Coast on Sept. 1.
Junior goalkeeper Ashleah McDonald moves to 8-3-1 and improved her goals against average to, 0.62. Buffalo's Laura Dougall made one save, and drops to 5-6-2.
Kent State extends its lead in the MAC East to two games over second place Buffalo, and only trail Ball State for the overall MAC leader.
Senior Donavan Capehart made a return to the lineup since she was sidelined with an injury on Sept. 7.
Kent State will take on two MAC West foes in Northern Illinois on Friday, Oct. 13 and Western Michigan on Sunday, Oct. 15.
