
Track and Field Set for MAC Outdoor Championships

Kent State is set to compete in the 2017 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Western Michigan at Kanley Track & Field Complex in Kalamazoo, Mich., May 11-13.

The 2017 MAC Outdoor Championships get underway Thursday at 10 a.m. with the men's hammer throw. The decathlon is set to begin at 11 a.m. with the 100m dash, while the heptathlon kicks off at noon with the 100m hurdles. The only running events taking place on Thursday are the men's and women's 10,000m runs, the first of which is set to go off at 6:50 p.m. Friday will see the conclusion of the decathlon and heptathlon and the finals of five field events beginning with the men's shot put at 12:30 p.m. Running events on Friday are slated to begin at 12:30 p.m. as well, with the 1,500m trials. Saturday's field events begin with the men's discus at 10 a.m., and the running events get underway at 1 p.m. with the men's 4x100m relay.
FLASHBACK TO LAST YEAR'S MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
Kent State's men's program finished third overall at last year's outdoor conference championships. On the final day of the competition, Golden Flashes captured individual championships in the 100m, 200m, 110m hurdles, 4x100m relay and the triple jump. Reggie Jagers III (discus) and David Paliscak (shot put) return to the championship stage seeking to improve upon their second-place finishes from last year.
Kent State's women's program is looking to improve upon its fourth-place finish from a year ago. Former Golden Flash Jackie Leppelmeier captured the only individual championship last year, winning the hammer throw on the first day of the competition. Kent State returns three All-MAC Second Team performers in Taylor Farquhar (400m hurdles), Gabrielle Figueroa (hammer) and Jai'Lyn Mosley (discus).
RANKING THE GOLDEN FLASHES
• Heading into the outdoor championships, Golden Flashes currently lead the conference in five events.
• Danniel Thomas leads the MAC in the discus and shot put with marks of 58.03m and 18.49m, respectively.
• Dairius Ragland's time of 14.39 seconds continues to lead the conference, with Richard Dahome ranked second at 14.52 seconds.
• Sam Tollerud is tied atop the women's pole vault standings with a season-best mark of 4.16m (13' 7.75").
• In the decathlon, TJ Lawson's 7,497 points from the first week of the season still leads the MAC. Ryan Looser ranks second with his total of 6,451 points.
