SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – Kent State director of golf/head men's golf coach Herb Page has been named as one of five finalists for the 2017 Division I Dave Williams Award presented by Golf Pride Grips, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced on Friday (May 26).
Page has guided the Golden Flashes to their 18th trip to the NCAA National Championships following a runner-up finish at the NCAA Seattle Regional. Kent State claimed five team titles, including the Mid-American Conference Championship, and also posted three runner-up finishes while only placing outside the top four once in 13 events this season. All five of the team's starters were named to the All-MAC First Team with Page being named Kermit Blosser MAC Coach of the Year for the 22nd time.
Now in his 39th season leading the Kent State golf program, Page continues to elevate the national profile of the school's men's and women's teams. This spring, Kent State is one of only two programs from outside of the "Power 5" conferences to have both teams qualify for the NCAA Championships. Earlier this week, the women's team tied for fifth in the country after making history as the first non "Power 5" team to advance to match play since the current format was implemented in 2015.
The Williams Award honors the national coach of the year in Division I men's golf. Oklahoma State's Alan Bratton, Vanderbilt's Scott Limbaugh, Oregon's Casey Martin and Baylor's Mike McGraw are the other finalists for the award. The coach of the winning team at this week's NCAA Championships will be added to the list of finalists.
Live scoring will be available throughout the tournament, while the Golf Channel will pick up the action in round four. Be sure to follow @KentStGolf for updates throughout the tournament, including photos and video from the course.
